Creators opening with "Hi guys, just wanted to hop on real quick…" are basically handing the algorithm a skip button. 🛑

You have literally have ONE second.

Below are 3 ways to master your hooks and audience targeting.

1⃣ Ditch the slow start

Viewers on their FYP aren't there to see you.
They don't know you yet.
They owe you nothing.

So when you open with "Hey guys, I just wanted to show you this product real quick"… they're already gone. 💨

The scroll stops for one thing:
a relatable problem
a result they want
a question they can't ignore.

All of it in the first 1–3 seconds.
No warm-up.
Drop them straight into it. 🔥

2⃣ Master the Hook Trifecta

Here's the mistake most creators make:
Your on-screen text says the exact same thing your mouth is saying.

That's one hook doing the job of three.

The Hook Trifecta means your visual, your text, and your verbal hook are all doing different jobs simultaneously.

Each one opening a separate curiosity loop.
When all three hit at once, viewers can't leave.
Their brain won't let them.

  • Visual hook → motion, contrast, something slightly off

  • Text hook → specific, weird, emotion-driven ("Those white armpits 😳")

  • Verbal hook → drops mid-scene, like you're already in a conversation

Three triggers. Three reasons to stay past second one.

That's how you build watch time and watch time is what drives GMV 💰

3⃣ Target a specific identity — or convert nobody

"This product is great for everyone" 🟰 the algorithm showing it to no one. 0⃣

The top-performing TikTok Shop videos call out one specific person.

Not a demographic. An identity.

  • "Busy moms who don't have time to meal prep…"

  • "If you're a lazy girl who still wants clear skin…"

  • "For anyone who's ever rage-quit a cleaning day…"

When a viewer hears their exact identity out loud, the video becomes theirs.

That's the psychological switch that turns views into clicks.
