The sell-or-ban clock keeps ticking for TikTok, and the rumor mill with TikTok’s new app is in overdrive.

What’s the latest:

• The divest-or-ban law still stands. ByteDance has until Sept 17 to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations or go dark.

• Reuters claims an “M2” clone in the works. Sources say engineers are copying the full code, data, and algorithm to a U.S. stack for a 5 Sep beta (think “Douyin vs. TikTok” split).

• Sale talks are live. Oracle and several U.S. PE giants are front-runners; ByteDance keeps a minority stake.

Note: TikTok denies any new app, stating “Factually inaccurate.” Expect news to be all over the place leading up to the “ban” (just like every single time so far 🙄)

Big unknowns:

• Will there be another extension, or will ByteDance come to an agreement this time?

• If an agreement is made, will your existing videos, followers, and payouts migrate automatically?

• How different will a USA-only algorithm feel?

• Forced download of the new app or silent switch?
